Isko Moreno To Turn Manila Into A Green City, Aims To Enlarge Arroceros Park
ISKO MORENO – Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno wants to turn Manila into a green city starting with expanding the Arroceros Forest Park.
In the previous report, he had a dinner with the country’s largest tycoons on Saturday. He wants them to invest in the old business district in Escolta.
Moreno further encourage them to hire most Manila residents as employees should the tycoons plans to build branches, franchises, and developments.
Recently, after cleaning up portions of Manila, the mayor aims to expand the capital’s last forested area, the Arroceros Park, as part of his goal to turn Manila into a green city.
A report in ABS-CBN states that the previous administration, which was under Joseph Estrada, aimed to clear a portion of the park to establish a gym that will be used by many Manila universities.
Moreno recently said that he will withdraw a part of the Arroceros Street that is meant for public use, then expand the park. He told this to environmentalists who were lobbying for the preservation of the park.
A Tweet by Kat Domingo showed Moreno discussing his plans to the said officials:
Moreno further said that he aims to close the roads at the corner of the Quezon footbridge in order to have more open space to be transformed into green space. This is also in response to the traffic issue in Lawton.
He then wanted the gates that rings the park destroyed since he wanted an open park more than one that looks like a prison.
Arroceros Park was developed in 1993. It is home to some three thousand types of avian and trees. This was closed due to the informal settlers and gangsters inhabiting the area.
As per the report, Moreno said that it’s unfair for those who wanted to see the park because of the government’s neglect that deprived the comfortable access of the people.
He then said that the solution is not to prison the park with gates but to add security and enough hands to maintain the purpose of Arroceros Park.
