EXTINCT ANIMALS: Rare Photos Of Species That No Longer Exists

Rare photos of extinct animals.

EXTINCT ANIMALS – Here is a compilation of the extinct species, specifically, animals, that have gone to extinction that the future kids would never see in person in the future.

A lot of factors have to be the cause of the extinction of these animals but on the top spot probably are the human activities. Expansion of farming, deforestation, and pollution are just among the causes of vanishing of these following species.

See below:

  • West African Black Rhinoceros – They were declared extinct in 2011. Due to the belief that their horns have medicinal properties, heavy poaching was done. A preservation action has been conducted in 1930’s but their number continued to decrease that led to total extinction.

  • Baiji White Dolphin – They are also called the Chinese River Dolphin and can be found in the Yangtze River of China. The progress and industrialization of China contributed to the declining number of these animals. It wasn’t recorded to be extinct but no one saw one then since 2002.

  • Pyrenean Ibex – From 50,000 count historically, it fell down to 100 in early 1900s to which the cause of its disappearance was still unknown. The last specie was killed by a falling tree in 2000 in Spain.

  • Passenger Pigeon – They were no longer existing since the early 20th century. The last one died in captivity in 1914. There were an estimated count of 3 to 5 billion Passenger Pigeons in US but when Europeans arrived in North America, it led to mass deforestation, thus, loss of habitat resulting to reduced population. Also, a massive hunt happened as it was known as a cheap meat for the poor.

  • Sabre-toothed Cat – These carnivores can open their jaw at 120 degrees angle way larger than a modern lion could. Their extinction is associated to the extinction of large herbivores they hunted, and believed that their vanishing was also due to climate change and competition with humans.
