HUMAN DISASTERS – In this topic, we will discuss the examples of human disasters, in which these calamities are caused by humans.

Calamity – an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster.
Man-made – made or caused by human beings (as opposed to occurring or being made naturally); artificial.

Examples of Human Disasters
1. Oil or Chemical Spill
A calamity that was caused by accidents from tankers, barges, pipelines, refineries, and storage facilities, resulting to the spillage of explosives, flammable and combustible substances, poisons, and radioactive materials.
2. Economic Collapse
A series of bad economic issues, which includes a severe, prolonged depression with high bankruptcy rates and high unemployment; the breakdown in normal commerce caused by hyperinflation; or an economically caused sharp rise in the death rate and perhaps even a decline in population.
3.Nuclear Accident
Accidents caused by nuclear power plants. The plants heat generated from nuclear fission in a contained environment to convert water to steam, which powers generators to produce electricity.
4. Terrorist Attack/ Terrorism
As per the report, it is a disaster that can occur anytime. It is the use of force or violence against persons or property in violation of the criminal laws of any country for purposes of intimidation, coercion, or ransom.
5. Power Outage
Also known as blackouts or brownouts, it is a disaster that when prolonged, can become one from a minor inconvenience. We nowadays depend our lives on electricity. Without it, it is an inconvenience for us humans.
6. Dam Faliure
A disaster that could result in other disasters such as floods, power outage, etc. As a source of electricity, a failure could lead to a power outage. When a dam ceases to function or is destroyed, it could cause more than just a power outage.
7. Biological Threat.
A disaster caused by bio-weapons, like bacteria, virus, etc. If a human is infected, he/she has the potential to cause a mass infection.
8. War
An armed conflict between two states or countries. It is described by extreme violence, aggression, destruction, and mortality, using regular or irregular military forces.
9. Chemical Threat
A calamity caused by the spreading of poisonous chemicals by accident or intentional.
