HPG Chief Says Duterte tall Order For 5 Minutes Trip Between Cubao to Makati is Doable

DUTERTE – The chief of Highway Patrol Group said President Duterte’s tall order to cut travel time for Cubao to Makati is doable.

Previously, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte promised to reduce the travel time from Cubao to Makati in just 5 minutes before the year ends.

“You don’t have to worry about traffic. Travel time from Cubao to Makati could be reduced to five minutes by December. You just wait,” he said.

In a previous article, the Metropolitan Manila Department Authority (MMDA) chairman Danilo Lim said don’t take Duterte’s promise literally.

The Filipino should not concentrate on his vows but trust that there will be a big change soon.

“Huwag tayo mag-concentrate sa 5 minutes. Ang ibig sabihin ng Pangulo, umasa tayo ng malaking pagbabago,” said Lim.

Based on a report from Philstar, the director of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Brig. General Roberto Fajardo, said Duterte’s plan is actually doable.

“That’s the President’s order. So we will do our best. Actually, iyun ang challenge sa amin, kapag sinabi ni Presidente, we will do it,” said Fajardo.

However, the five minutes travel from Cubao to Makati is only possible during off-peak hours.

According to the report, the HPG director and his team conducted a simulation on EDSA at around 1 pm. Their test only took 4 minutes and 58 seconds using a vehicle that runs at 70 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, the MMDA and Department of Transportation (DOT) are planning to make some changes in EDSA. They eye on transferring the motorcycle lane on the right side beside the city buses lanes.

Based on the report, Fajardo trust that these changes will surely ensure the smooth flow of traffic for private vehicles.

The MMDA is also planning to close the bus terminals near EDSA to fix the traffic congestion along the busiest road.
