2 New Bugs Found by Researcher in Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Occidental

NEW BUGS – A researcher discovered two(2) new bug species in Mount Kanlaon in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Truth be told that a huge part of the world has yet to be discovered by humanity. These parts includes other marine species, flora and fauna, and a lot more.

With the brilliance and determination of some researchers to unravel the yet-to-be-discovered realities, new discoveries continue to cross the surface every now and then.

Recently, two(2) new species were found and named.

Based on a report on Inquirer, two(2) new bugs were found by a researcher in Mount Kanlaon in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Mt. Kanlaon is one of the active stratovolcanoes in the Philippines. The researcher, identified as Elorde Crispolon Jr., discovered the species at the foot of the volcano.

Elorde, a University of Southern Mindanao faculty member and a graduate student at the Museum National D’histoire Naturalle (National Museum of Natural History) in Paris, studied the species with Dr. Sheryl Yap.

Dr. Yap is a University of the Philippines’ Museum of Natural History curator. She is also an Adeline Soulier-Perkins of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.

Based on the report, Elorde Crispolon Jr. and Dr. Sheryl Yap studied the froghoppers that belong to Poeciloterpa. They were able to determine four new species – two(2) of it were the bugs found in Negros.

Elorde named the new bugs as Poeciloterpa conica and Poeciloterpa mangkas. According to the researcher, the old name of La Carlota City where the bugs were found is mangkas.

The two(2) other bugs are the P. altissima found in Mount Apo in North Cotabato and the P. gapudi in Mount Kitanlad in Bukidnon.
