The Agriculture Department quarantine officers of Subic, Zambales seized a massive amount of smuggled meatballs from China.

DA Secretary Manny Piñol said that the personnel initially claimed that the refrigerated van contains fish tofu.

The authorities inspect the van and recovered numerous boxes containing meatballs underneath the fish products.

China is one of the countries affected by the African swine fever that killed millions of pigs in different countries.

The Department of Agriculture banned the import of canned pork meat products from the countries affected by the virus.

The Department of Health (DOH) clarified that the Philippines is not yet affected by the ASF and pork meats from the local markets are still safe for the consumers.

The Food and Drug Administration has also released the list of canned meat products from virus-affected nations.
