Submerged motor banca in Davao rescued by PCG

Philippine Coast Guard rescued 50 persons, 45 passengers and 5 crew members, from a submerged motor banca in Davao.

The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Davao, together with local rescue units from Central 911, Regional Maritime Unit (RMU)-XI, Task Force Davao, Brgy 19, Davao City, Brgy Lapu-Lapu, Davao City, rescued the victims from the ill-fated sailing vessel.

According to a report from the Coast Guard, the incident happened at approximately 150 meters away from Sta Ana Wharf in Davao City last May 19.

The vessel with the name Sam Cristoffer was bound to Coral Garden, in Samal Island to conduct island hopping.

It was towed to the Sta Ana Wharf and the captain was advised to file a marine protest regarding the incident.

The boat accidentally caught the mooring lines underwater while conducting backing maneuver. This caused the boat to forcibly squat during forwarding maneuver.

Unfortunately, the forward part of the motor banca was also damaged and the water entered the vessel because of this.

The rescue teams provided necessary assistance during the conduct of search and rescue, based on the report.

In addition. the Medical-SEM, Davao Fire Fighter Rescue Services (DFRS) and Bureau Of Fire Protection (BFP)-XI were already prepositioned at Sta Ana Pier to give assistance to the rescued passengers and crew.
