Maynilad: New Water Crisis Expected If There Will Be No Rains Until July

Delayed Rains might Cause Another Water Crisis Maynilad Says

The Maynilad Water Services Inc. said that a new water crisis is expected over parts of the country if there will be no rains until July.

Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez said that another water crisis was expected if there will be no rains for the next few months.

The delayed rains might cause new water crisis, since the water level in Angat Dam reached its critical mark due to El Niño.

New Water Crisis

“The next crisis is that if there are no rains up to July, the level of Angat may reach 160 (meters), which is the low off-take already where turbidity might be higher which would mean slowing down of our plants,” Fernandez said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Angat Dam’s water level is now 179.97 meters slightly below the 180-meter operating level.

Fernandez was hoping that rains will come, so the regular water supply would resume.

New Water Crisis

However, Maynilad is now preparing its contingency measures such as deep wells activation and development of Kaliwa Dam as a new water source.
