CHED Announces August School Opening Starting A.Y 2019-2020

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced that the school opening will be moved to August of every year starting Academic Year 2019-2020.

CHED announced that all State Universities and Colleges, as well as Local Universities and Colleges, are enjoined to synchronize its respective Academic Year (AY) to a Fiscal Year (FY), according to the post of a netizen named Jannet Paster.

The higher education issued a memorandum informing CHED regional office directors and heads of SUCs and LUCs about the shift of academic calendar.

The shift of academic calendar is the pursuant of RA 7722 or “Higher Education Act of 1994” and CEB Resolution No. 142-2019.

The memorandum aims to ensure that at the beginning of FY 2020, all SUCs and LUCs have synchronized their academic year to a fiscal year.

CHED Officer-in-Charge J. Prospero de Vera III signed the memorandum announcing the shift of class opening.

De Vera also explained that the commission made the decision considering the August class opening in public universities for the easier implementation of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act under the cash-based budgeting system.
