SILAY – Incumbent Mayor of Silay City, Mark Golez, and former City Mayor Jose ‘Oti’ Montelibano faced off in Bombo Debate.

Currently, we are in the season of Election 2019. The campaign period for both local and national elections have already started and politicians start to make public rounds.

In the local level, there will be political bids for municipal and city councilors and mayors. In the national level, there will be election for senators and representatives.

Now that the election fever is here, different activities related to it are happening everywhere including debates. Recently, two(2) political figures in Silay City, Negros Occidental faced off for an aired debate.

Silay City incumbent Mayor Mark Golez and former City Mayor Jose “Oti” Montelibano faced off in Bombo Debate match. Both politicians revealed their edge and courageously challenged each other with questions.

On the part of the former Mayor, his opening remarks contained the events when he was just starting in the political arena. He recalled how hard it was for the government but there are people who volunteered and helped.

For his opening remark, Mayor Golez discussed the mantra of his administration – Asesnso Silay, Asenso sang Panimalay. He stressed that he wanted to achieve it by leading a government that fights corruption and extends services to the ordinary individuals.

The initial part of the debate between Silay Mayor Golez and former Mayor Montelibano was quite calm until the first question was drawn. The politicians were asked on how they can solve the drug problem in the city.

The incumbent mayor stressed that under his term, the responsibility to maintain the peace and order was brought back to the police force.

On the part of the former Mayor, he posted questions on why the drug problem was not totally solved in the city considering that there is the so-called “PDEA list”. He stressed that drugs is a problem in all the cities and not only in Silay.

Mayor Golez responded and expressed that he has no unliquidated cash advances to the government. According to him, former Mayor Montelibano has an unliquidated cash advances amounting to Php 38 million.

The issue about the alleged “unliquited cash advances” under the term of the former Silay Mayor initiated eager reactions from both sides.

Former Mayor Montelibano said that it was already clarified while Mayor Golez insisted that records still show it’s unliquidated. It came to a point that the incumbent mayor seemingly interrupted the former Mayor who was still speaking.
