DRINKING COLD WATER – There has been rumors saying that drinking cold under the hot weather water may be bad for your health, but it was recently disproved by a doctor.

On the other hand, in the scorching heat of today’s temperatures DOH warns the public against heatstroke.

There has been numerous online posts saying that bathing in cold water when the temperature is 40 degrees or higher, can cause blood vessels to explode.

Dr. Tony Leachon answered to it saying: “Fake news yan, hindi ya totoo.” Which translates to “That is fake news, that is not true.”

He added, “In fact, ‘yan dapat ang gagawin natin during the time ng tag-init kasi ang body natin will need extra amount ng tubig. Madalas tayong papawisan dito at nade-dehydrate ang iba diyan,” during an interview with DZMM. According to an article from ABS CBN News.

“In fact, that’s what we should do during these times. Because our body needs an extra amount of water. We sweat more, and others end up dehydrated.”

Dehydration may cause heatstroke which can sometimes be eased by putting the person experiencing the heatstroke in a tub of cold water.

He said the symptoms of heatstroke are:

  • nausea,
  • abnormal rapid heart beat and,
  • difficulty in urinating.

And to help them he said, the patient experiencing the symptoms must:

  • lie down,
  • loosen clothing,
  • drink water,
  • wipe the body with wet towel and,
  • find good ventilation.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll keep you posted. Stay safe!
