Recently, a news report about a disappointing move of a maritime police head in Cavite crossed the surface. His arrest was followed by his entire unit being relieved from their posts.
Based on a report on CNN, 402nd Maritime Police Station Head Superintendent Armandy Dimabuyo was arrested for extortion of money from fishermen.
According to the police authorities, Dimabuyo, the head of the maritime police in Barangay Julugan in the town of Tanza, was caught in the act during an entrapment operation.
Dimabuyo received Php 18,000.00 from the complainant during the operation. The Philippine National Police has reportedly released a statement expressing that owners of motorized banca have complained against the maritime police head.
Based on the report, it is stated in the statement that Dimabuyo allegedly demanded Php 19,000.00 to Php 21,000.00 from the fishermen group.
According to the PNP Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), Dimabuyo will be facing administrative and criminal charges. The entire Cavite Maritime Police Unit under him was also relieved.
Based on the report, a special operations unit has taken over the posts of the relieved maritime officers as to the PNP Maritime Group.
