Palace Declares January 21 As Special Non-Working Holiday

Malacañang Palace has declared January 21, 2019 as a special non-working holiday in the following areas in Mindanao based on a new proclamation.

The Palace has declared a special non-working holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Isabela City, and Cotabato City on January 21, 2019 (Monday).

The announcement was made for the conduction of the plebiscite for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to be held by the commission on Elections (Comelec).

Holiday

Proclamation No. 646 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea declaring it as a holiday to give to the residents of the mentioned areas to exercise their right to vote.

In July 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the BOL hoping that it would end the feud between the government and the rebel groups in Mindanao.

However, Mr. Duterte admit that not everybody might like the BOL but he join a rally in Cotabato City to call on public to support Bangsamoro Organic Law on Friday (January 18, 2019).

Holiday

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that president Duterte’s sentiments are effective enough to convince the public to support.

“The voice of the President is always a powerful influence on whatever matter (he puts) his voice into,”  Panelo said.
