Public Advisory of DFA for Filipinos Traveling, Transiting Through Hong Kong

DFA – The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a public advisory for Filipinos who are traveling to Hong Kong or transiting through the said country.

Considering the scattered populace of Filipinos around the world, every day, lots of Pinoys are going for an out-of-the-country trip. One of those countries that many Filipinos usually travel to is Hong Kong.

For some travel cases, they are transiting through Hong Kong in going to another nation like Canada. However, whether staying or transiting through HK, Filipinos should always be observant and obedient of the rules.

Based on a recent social media post on the Twitter page of DFA, the department has recently issued a public advisory for Filipinos traveling to or transiting through Hong Kong.

The said advisory from the department followed a Filipino student being arrested in Hong Kong for the two extendable batons that was found in the baggage that he checked-in.

Based on the advisory, the arrest was confirmed by Consul General Antonio Morales. He’s reminding the Filipinos not to bring personal defense weapons with them as it might be punishable in Hong Kong.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the student who was arrested in Hong Kong in January 8 was bound for Canada. It was only in January 11 that he was permitted to leave HK.
