Pinay Engineer Josephine Santiago-Bond Is Now Working in NASA

Meet Josephine Santiago-Bond, the Pinay engineer who initially struggled in Math but now working at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Most people have already big dreams on their young age and working hard to reach their goals in life.

The Filipina engineer Josephine Santiago-Bond took more practical approach for dreaming to finish study, get a job and to earn money without having a vision on her future profession.

Santiago revealed that she had no plan of taking an engineering course until her older schoolmate convinced her take Electronics and Communications Engineering program at the University of the Philippines (UP).

The young Filipina find Math more difficult as she advanced into the five-year program get a few bad grades.

 “I had to crawl my way through some of the courses, but I wasn’t going to give up on [Electronics and Communications Engineering] because of a few bad grades,” Santiago said.

The Pinay engineer moved to US after graduating in UP and take a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University.

In 2003, Josephine worked for the summer at the John F. Kennedy Space Center (K.S.C.) as advised by her graduate adviser until she completed it in 2005.

Today, Santiago is now working as the chief of her department at the halls of John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida, one of the 10 NASA sites.

The lady engineer is in-charge of supplying engineering support in executing NASA’s missions.
