Australia’s DFA Alerts Citizens on Traveling in Some Parts of Mindanao

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia has warned its citizens against traveling over some parts of Mindanao.

Australia’s DFA cautioned the citizens to carefully think first before visiting eastern Mindanao because of the terrorist activities.

The department advised the Australian people to avoid traveling across Zamboanga Peninsula, the Sulu archipelago and the southern Sulu Sea area, which can be found along central and western Mindanao.

“Reconsider your travel to eastern Mindanao and do not travel to central and western Mindanao due to very high levels of violent crime, high threats of terrorist attacks and kidnapping,” DFA said

The foreign affairs departs advised the Australians to increase their precautionary measures when traveling in the Philippines.

A travel advisory has been issued by the British government for including western and central Mindanao and the archipelago of Sulu.

Chief Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr. of the Armed Forces of the Philippines said that the military was already making efforts after receiving the travel advisory.

“We advise our troops to double their efforts to prevent these violent incidents from happening so that we can encourage foreign investments and tourism in Mindanao,” Madrigal said quoted by Philstar.
