Students in Negros Occidental have to cross overflowing river when going to school

Students in the town of E. B. Magalona in Negros Occidental have to cross overflowing river just to attend their classes at the nearby school.

This situation is the everyday routine of determined students in Brgy. Canlusong.

Apparently, the obstacle hindering these young children from learning with ease did not bother them at all.

As a saying from Robert Maynard Hutchins says “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives” – these children are great examples.

Someday, somehow, what they learned and their experiences in going to school would help them deal the reality of life.

However, as anyone would probably say, students should not risk their safety just to get a decent education.

Based on the photos of these students in E. B. Magalona, Negros Occidental posted on the Facebook Page of The Visayan Daily Star, it is not that safe crossing the overflowing river.

Netizens’ reaction

With this, netizens express concern to the situation of young children in going to school.

On the comment section, Facebook user Jen Dulaca Ebreo said that it is indeed dangerous for students to be in this kind of situation. Residences in the said Barangay prove that this situation is really happening.

Some netizens commented that this problem should be addressed as soon as possible.

On the other hand, a Facebook account with the user name Bantay Saraviahanon stated that the photos were taken back in 2017. The area is under gradual repair, according to the comment.

However, netizens lambasted this. They disproved that the problem was already addressed.
