Boracay Residents Want No-Casino Policy In Island, Pres. Duterte Says
President Rodrigo Duterte said that the Boracay residents want a no-casino police in the country’s top tourist destination.
Previously, Mr. Duterte showed his opposition to the construction of a casino in the famous island of Boracay.
Duterte’s decision came after Galaxy Macau’s Galaxy Entertainment Group and its local partner, AB Leisure Exponent Inc. announced plans to build a $500 million casino resort in the tourist spot.
Recently, President Duterte said that the residents of Boracay want a no-casino policy on the island based on the recent survey.
“Ang survey dito, ang mga tao ng Boracay, ayaw ng sugal. If it is the wish of the population here that they do not want a casino, then it will be a no casino,” Duterte said quoted by Inquirer.
The president explained that casinos cause numerous irregularities such as illegal activities, kidnappings, illegal drug trade, and other crimes.
However, Mr. Duterte explained that an executive order is not needed to stop the construction of casinos in the famous island.
