Duterte’s Cabinet Seek Suspension Of Casino Operations In Boracay

Some of the Cabinet members of President Rodrigo Duterte are seeking for the suspension of the Casino operations in Boracay Island.

Duterte’s aides who are leading the clean-up of Boracay were asking the regulators to prohibit the operation of any casino in the top tourist destination.

Earlier, President Duterte said that Boracay should be casino-free on its reopening and will give the government-owned lands in the famous island to farmers.

In a letter, the heads of the Boracay inter-agency rehabilitation task force asked Andrea Domingo, the chairman of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) to cancel all gaming franchise and license in the country’s top haven.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año signed the letter.

Last March, Macau casino giant Galaxy Entertainment and its Filipino partner, Leisure and Resorts World Corp have signed a provisional license with Pagcor in building a $500 million integrated resort in the island.

Boracay Island was set to open on October 26, 2018 (Friday) after the six months of rehabilitation process.
