PhilHealth Proposes To Raise Member’s Monthly Contribution By P100

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has proposed to raise the member’s monthly contribution by P100 starting next year.

PhilHealth is planning to raise the monthly contribution of its members by at least P100 starting June 2019 for universal health care.

The contribution hike will increase the annual member’s payment from P2,400/year to P3,600 per year.

Monthly Contribution

The health institution explained that the additional contribution will go to the government’s Universal Health Care Program aiming to provide free health services to Filipino people.

“Without sustainable funding, I’m afraid that it might be a failure… Dapat dun maging obligasyon natin. Ang nangyayari kasi mahirap puro doleouts,” PhilHealth Board Member Dr. Anthony Leachon said quoted by News5.

Monthly Contribution

Several institutions were expected to contribute to the funds; the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (P4 billion), Philippine Gaming Corporation (P10 billion), and the Department of Health (P70 billion).

Monthly Contribution

The proposed tobacco excise tax was also expected to contribute an additional amount of P50 billion.

The Universal Health Care bill has been already passed in the Senate and expected to be signed by President Duterte.
