The family of Miriam Defensor-Santiago reacted to the joke of Manny Piñol
Miriam Defensor-Santiago was the subject of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol’s joke and the family of the late Senator reacted about this.
During the command conference of NDRRMC for typhoon Ompnong, the DA Secretary said this:
“Ang original version niyan ay si Miriam Santiago. Nagpamasahe sa airport. Sabi ng bulag, ‘Ma’am Ilongga ka?’ Sabi ni Miriam ‘paano mo nalaman na Ilongga ako?’ ‘Kasi Ma’am, maraming hangin ang ulo mo.”
Obviously, family and supporters of the late Senator did not laugh about his joke. On the Facebook Page of The Legacy of Miriam Defensor Santiago, Piñol’s joke received criticism.
“You have angered the supporters and the family of the late senator! Just so you know, the senator never liked massages — she never even had a manicure or a pedicure in her lifetime! Your brain is not only very very dark, your CT scan shows that it is infested with rice weevils (bukbok)”

Following this post, a statement from the family of Miriam Defensor-Santiago was shared on the said FB Page.
It was a message directly addressed to the Secretary of Department of Agriculture. This is the statement from the Defensor Santiago family:
Your statement was inappropriate, baseless, foul and disrespectful to the achievements and sacrifices made by the late Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago for the Filipino people. Please do not use her name in a bad way. She is way out of your league – on intelligence, capability and morality.
You are the root cause of the agricultural food problems of the Filipinos because you run your office through “praise releases.”
Because of this, several netizens also fired back to Piñol, especially those who are supporting the late Senator until now.
