Latest Updates About Typhoon Ompong Released by PAGASA

The state weather bureau PAGASA has released the latest updates about Typhoon Ompong, which is currently hitting the country.

On Saturday (September 15, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest update about the typhoon.

PAGASA reported that Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) is hitting northern Luzon with intense winds and torrential winds after making a landfall.

Mangkhut hits Baggao, Cagayan around 1:40 am and now heading towards Apayao and Ilocos Norte.

Ompong slightly weakened packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 305 kph moving 30 kph at a west direction.

The weather agency has also released the updated list of areas under tropical cyclone warning signals due to the typhoon.

About 5.2 million people will be affected by the Typhoon Ompong, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The weather bureau also warned the residents near the coastline of typhoon-affected areas to take precautionary measures for up to 6-meter storm surges.

Over 6,000 seaport and flight passengers have been stranded on the travel cancellations due to Typhoon Ompong.

The typhoon was expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday evening or Sunday early morning (September 16, 2018).
