Oplan Dog Hang lambasted!

OPLAN DOG HANG – The poster of “Oplan Dog Hang” by some barangay officials got lambasted, condemned, and called out by PAWS and celebrities.

Animals are meant to live freely and accordingly right. The reason why people are bound to responsible when owning ones or at least have a compassion for these adorable creatures regardless of their kind.

Undeniably, one of the best companion the people could have are the dogs. A dog is even tagged as a “man’s best friend” and surely, many could attest to the incomparable loyalty these animals have always shown to their owners.

But recently, a campaign had been lambasted which reportedly imposes animal cruelty.

The tagline says, “Oplan “Dog” Hang! Wag nang manlaban, isuko na ang alagang hayop! Upang hindi na makapinsala at makadumi sa kapaligiran.”

Thus, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), after learning this, have condemned the campaign.

“Animal control or collection of strays must be done humanely under the Animal Welfare Act (RA 8485, as amended by RA 10631),” their statement stated.

Moreover, “Using “tokhang” to refer to the killing or rounding up of animals who have not committed any crime is unfair and ignorant. Its message is also dangerous and irresponsible as the poster gives the impression that inhumane acts towards strays are acceptable.”

Also, celebrities who are known as pet lovers reacted to this.

Animal advocate Carla Abellana indicated, “Mr. Christian Cando, Ms. Agnes Cando and Mr. Arnie Cando, sorry but you should be ashamed of putting your names and faces on the poster of this illegal campaign. Hindi po kayo dapat proud for putting together an illegal act and miseducating your local citizens.”

Also, Heart Evangelista who even lets her dog sleep in a Hermes blanket has strongly stressed: “This is so WRONG.”
