TDC & ACT Urges Gov’t To Review Inhumane Policies Towards Underpaid Teachers

The Teacher’s Dignity Coalition (TDC) and Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) urged the government to review the alleged DepEd’s inhumane policies towards underpaid teachers.

The groups argue that Filipino teachers are still underpaid due to the unbearable workload imposed by the Department of Education (DepEd).

The teacher’s groups urged the local government to reduce the workload and hefty pressure on public school educators.

They also released a statement asking the government to review the DepEd’s alleged inhumane policies towards teachers who must be also spared from too much exhaustion.

“Please liberate our teachers from clerical tasks and burden of lesson preparation, We stand by the fact that the more detailed the lesson plan is, the more the teachers become unproductive because they have to spend an overnight just to comply with the requirements of a ‘good’ lesson plan,” the group said quoted by Manila Bulletin.

TDC emphasizes that the excessive workload imposed by DepEd reduces the effectivity of teachers when it comes to teaching.

Both groups of TDC and ACT said that the heavy workload of the public school teachers is linked to cases of depression and suicide.

ACT also call on the Congress to allocate sufficient budget to resolve the shortage in the education system of the country.
