Some Scenes In Hollywood Film ‘Pacific Rim’ Taped In Manila

Manila made its way on the international big screen through ‘Pacific Rim’ movie.

PACIFIC RIM- Manila, Philippines also made a cameo in the 2013 American ‘Monster’ film ‘Pacific Rim’.

Recently, Filipino Marvel fans were hyped when reports surfaced that one of the most renowned tourist destination in the Philippines- Banaue Rice Terraces was featured in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

As of the previous report, Bangkok-based movie-making firm Indochina Productions revealed to have shot a scene in the famous ridged rice paddies in Philippine’s north where Thanos exiles himself to being a farmer.

The nineteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe smashed two records in the Philippine Box Office on the debut day alone- the highest grossing film on premiere day and biggest single-day gross box office.

Unknown to some, there are more buzzed-about foreign films aside from ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ that actually featured the archipelago as a setting in some parts of the plot.

Based on a report from PEP.ph, Executive Producer of Indochina Productions Nicholas Simon also revealed in an interview with Cabinet Files that the Philippines had previously made its way on the big screen through the 2013 International film ‘Pacific Rim’.

“The Opening Sequence of the first Pacific Rim has some shots of Manila, we serviced that,” Simon said.

However, while the latest talk-of-the-town Marvel movie brought out the country’s famous world-wonder, the Philippines’ appearance in ‘Pacific Rim’ earlier created a controversy for featuring the ‘dirty’ side of the country.

Another report from ABS-CBN News claimed that the 2013 monster film triggered reactions from Filipino netizens when it shows a pile of garbage in a specific area in Manila rather than the exquisite beaches and lush green forests, which appears to be emphasizing its third-world status.

As per PEP’s report, Simon also exposed that the Production Company shot another scene in the Philippines in the newly released international movie ‘A Prayer Before Dawn’ which made its premiere in the Cannes Film Festival last year.

“We shot the final 15 minutes of ‘A Prayer before dawn’ in Cebu in June 2017,” he said.

‘A Prayer Before Dawn’ is coming in the US Cinemas this August and is set to be shown on Netflix before 2018 ends.
