Phivolcs Confirm Earthquakes Hit Davao Occidental, 2 Other Provinces

EARTHQUAKES – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology confirmed that three (3) strong earthquakes struck the provinces of Davao Occidental, Surigao del Norte, and Maguindanao.

Recently, some residents of Surigao del Norte, Maguindanao, and Davao Occidental provinces felt the shaking as three strong earthquakes hit the said parts of the Philippines.

Based on a recent report in Manila Bulletin, the Phivolcs has already released a bulletin confirming that three quakes struck Maguindanao, Surigao del Norte, and Davao Occidental provinces.

According to the state agency, a 4.7 magnitude quake with an epicenter of 123 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental Province was recorded. It has a depth of 86 kilometers and was plotted at 4:06 in the morning today.

Based on the report, the agency also recorded that a 5.9 magnitude quake struck a part of Maguindanao province at 2:02 in the morning today. It was plotted 14 kilometers southeast of South Upi in Maguindanao province. It has a depth of 527 kilometers.

At 7:57 in the evening on May 10, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake with the epicenter located 9 kilometers of LIBJO (Albor) in Surigao del Norte was recorded according to Phivolcs. The quake has a depth of 22 kilometers.

No injury because of the earthquakes was recorded.

The Intensity II was felt in the following areas:

  • Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur
  • Cagayan De Oro City
  • Oras, Eastern Samar
  • Camiguin Island

The Intensity was felt in the following areas:

  • Baybay City, Dulag
  • Palo and Pastrana, Leyte
  • Borongan and Dolores, Eastern Samar
  • Gingoog, Misamis Oriental
  • Maasin and Sogod, Southern Leyte
  • Tacloban City
  • San Miguel, Surigao Del Sur
  • Iligan City
  • Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands

Based on the report, Intensity IV was felt in the following areas:

  • Carrascal and Cantilan, Surigao Del Sur
  • Lawaan, Giporlos, General Macarthur
  • Llorente, Maydolong, and San Julian, Eastern Samar
  • Butuan City
  • San Francisco, San Juan, Liloan and Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
  • Tolosa, Leyte
  • Placer and Mainit, Surigao Del Norte
  • Rosario, Agusan del Sur

The Intensity V was felt in the following areas:

  • Libjo (Albor), Surigao Del Norte
  • Surigao City
  • Guiuan, Mercedes and Salcedo, Eastern Samar
  • San Jose, Dinagat Island
