OFW in Kuwait Falls From Employer’s Apartment

OFW Passed Away Abroad After Falling From an Apartment

OFW- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) conveyed a painful news about a Filipina overseas worker in Saudi Arabia who died due to the injuries acquired after falling from her employer’s apartment.

Based on an article from ABS-CBN News, citing a report from the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah, the OFW fell from a building’s sixth floor last April 27.

The news came when the national government initiated to certify the conditions and the well-being of Filipino workers in the Middle East after several cases of alleged mistreatments of Kuwaiti employers were reported.

The identity of the Filipina worker has not yet been revealed by the Philippine Consulate to date, as the family of the deceased has not yet been informed about the sad incident.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Philippine Consul General Edgar Badajos recently released an update on the investigation of the case of the Filipina domestic helper.

As per the statement of the Consul General, authorities are still working on the analysis in relation to the circumstance. Reportedly, the woman was still thriving after the fall but passed away shortly after being transported to a hospital due to severe injuries in the head.

So far, the said incident is the most recent publicized demise of an overseas Filipino worker since the Joanna Demafelis case that saddened the entire country last February of the same year. The OFW was found dead inside a freezer in an apartment abroad.

The Lebanese and Syrian employers of Demafelis were sentenced to death penalty after having found guilty.

As stated in the report, Demafelis’ death urged President Rodrigo Duterte to start the banning of deployment of OFWs in Kuwait.
