“Die Beautiful” earns another international award.
DIE BEAUTIFUL – The Pinoy film starring Paolo Ballesteros “Die Beautiful” continues to shine as it once again earned an award at Newcastle International Film Festival.
“Die Beautiful” is a Filipino comedy-drama film directed by Jun Robles Lana and produced by Jun Robles Lana and Ferdinand Lapuz featuring Paolo Ballesteros.
The film had its premiere at the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival on October 27, 2016, which is also an official entry to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
And upon its premiere, the film had reach miles as it continues to win awards.
According to a report from the Inquirer, the film was able to bag the best feature prize at Newcastle International Film Festival recently held in the United Kingdom.
Lana said that their winning is a “pleasant surprise”.
“Our UK distributor, Oration Films, had submitted our movie to the festival. (Coproducer) Perci (Intalan) was in London at the time of the fest, but wasn’t able to stay until the awards ceremony,” he said.
The award was accordingly a “big bonus” considering international trophies and P120-million box-office earnings at the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2016.
“Our US distributor (Oration) told us that our film is still fairly new, if you take into consideration the lifespan of movies abroad. Just goes to show how fast things move in the local industry, and how deliberate and strategic the global market actually is,” he explained.
And he further added that the said film is still showing in Japan until now.
A follow-up to “Die Beautiful”, “Born Beautiful” is set to have a debut in Cignal on May.
“We can’t be prouder how the series is shaping up,” Lana related based on the report.
“When we started the project, we thought it was merely a spinoff. But it assumed a life of its own after Martin del Rosario had joined and embraced the role of Barbs so fearlessly. He inspired the creative team to push the story further.”
