Suspect On OFW Joanna Demafelis’ Death Arrested In Lebanon
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced the one out of the two suspects responsible for OFW Joanna Demafelis’ death was arrested in Lebanon.
Joanna Demafelis, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) whose body was found inside the freezer of an abandoned apartment in Kuwait has been the headlines of several local news outlets and social media pages over the last few weeks.
The authorities reported that the dead body of Pinay maid was frozen for more than a year inside the abandoned apartment of a Lebanese man and Syrian woman.
On Friday (February 23, 2018), DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano informed President Rodrigo Duterte that one of the suspects responsible for Demafelis’ death has been arrested.
The suspect identified as Nader Essam Assaf, a Lebanese nation has been arrested and now under the custody of the authorities in Lebanon.
“The President welcomes the news that Nader Essam Assaf is now in the hands of authorities in Lebanon. Assaf’s arrest is a critical first step in our quest for justice for Joanna and we are thankful to our friends in Kuwait and Lebanon for their assistance,” Cayetano said.
