Monthly Salary Increase Of Government Nurses To P30k Sought By Lawmakers

The lawmakers are now seeking to increase the monthly salary of the government nurses to P30, 000 excluding their benefits.

The House Bill 7196 or “An Act Upgrading the Minimum Monthly Salary of Nurses to P30, 000 and Providing for Benefits for Nurses” has been filed by Makabayan bloc of representatives from different part-lists.

The members of the group strongly believe that nurses in state hospitals should have a monthly salary of P30, 351 under the Republic Act 9173.

Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate, the group leading Makabayan said that the salary increase would help workers and nurses to cope up with the increasing price of basic commodities.

“These salary bills will help cushion the impact of the so-called tax reform law and the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities. While military and police personnel have doubled their salaries, the pay of other state workers has remained low,” Zarate said quoted by Summit Express.

The group also point out that nurses should also have additional benefits including hazard pay, overtime pay, night shift differential, and all pay aside from salary increase.

The Makabayan bloc was hoping that the administration would grant their request after increasing the salaries of police and militaries.

Currently, the Department of Budget and Management has fixed the nurses’ salary at Salary Grade 11 with P20, 754. While the proposed pay hike under Salary Grade 15, nurses would receive P30, 351 per month.
