Upcoming Super Blue Blood Moon’s Relation To Volcanic Eruptions, Earthquakes

Here is the scientific explanation for the upcoming super blue blood moon’s relation to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.

On January 31, 2018 (Wednesday), the whole world was set to experience a rare super blue blood moon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

A super blue blood moon is the combination of a blue moon, blood moon, and a supermoon, which is a rare appearance of three lunar phenomena at the same time.

Super Blue Blood Moon’s Relation

Supermoon – is the closest distance of the Moon to Earth, wherein people could see a larger size of the moon that its usual size.

Blue Moon – is the second appearance of full moon within a month, which only happens every two to three years

Blood Moon – it usually occurs during a total lunar eclipse, wherein the color of the moon turns to red or copper color.

This phenomenal event is quite relevant to the Pacific Ring of Fire including the Mayon Volcano because eclipses have always been associated with natural disasters.

Super Blue Blood Moon’s Relation

In Science, sun and moon have a gravitational pull, which usually manifests in the form of tides.

During a blood moon, the planet is being under pressure from sun and moon creating a shift in tectonic plates resulting to earthquakes and volcano eruptions.

Super Blue Blood Moon’s Relation

The supermoon could intensify that pressure because of the stronger gravitational force.

In 2015, Chile experienced a magnitude 8.3 quake prior the super blue blood moon.

In 2010, Japan was shaken by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake during the same day of the lunar eclipse. The following day, Iran has been struck by a magnitude 6.5 tremor, which took the lives of at least 11 people.

  1. I am 82 and, living in California, I have been observing earthquakes for years. I started reasoning the relationship of tidal forces to earthquakes and volcanism after the great Alaska quake of 1964. In 1989, on a weekend camping trip with friends in the Utah, I observed a supermoon and jokingly said: “I guess that means we are going to have an earthquake.” Two days later on the way home we heard of the big quake in Los Angeles. Around the same time, the head of the USGS said that the idea that tidal forces cause earthquakes is ridiculous. — Now it has been proven.

On Jan 31, 2018, 5:29 PST will be Full Moon/Lunar eclipse with:
S-E-M alignment within 0.5 degree relative to 5.1 degrees semi yearly cycle and,
only 1 day, 3.5 hr., relative to ~29 day monthly perigee cycle and,
during an extreme lunar perigee (-6.15% / avg.) that occurs roughly twice per year and,
only 29 days, relative to a 365 day cycle, after earth’s closest approach (-1.67%) to the Sun.

This is an extremely rare event since all these, of about a half dozen various cycles, have different periods.
The S-E-M alignment will occur when they are as nearly close together as possible with the earth caught in the middle.

Gravitational forces are proportional to the square of the distance but it has been shown that tidal effects are proportional to the cube of the distance.
The tidal effect of this Super blue blood lunar eclipse of January 2018 could be about 20% above average.

A new study, published on 12 September in Nature Geoscience3, ( University of Tokyo seismologists) looks at much larger patterns involving the twice-monthly tides that occur during full and new moons. It finds that the fraction of high magnitude earthquakes goes up globally as tidal stresses rise. For more than 10,000 earthquakes of around magnitude 5.5, the researchers found, an earthquake that began during a time of high tidal stress was more likely to grow to magnitude 8 or above. https://www.nature.com/news/moon-s-pull-can-trigger-big-earthquakes-1.20551.

(Now this is all common sense. If you take a piece of metal or other material, except for certain spring like materials, and bend it back and forth many times, it eventually will break somewhere around the position of maximum stress. It may not break on the first bending, or on the second, but eventually on one of them it will break. The same for tidal forces: maybe not on the first or the second extreme stress, but eventually ……) It is just increased probability and possible magnitude.
