733, 000 Dengvaxia Recipients Urged By Health Advocate To Show Up

Health advocate Dr. Anthony Leachon urges the parents of the 733, 000 recipients of the anti-dengue vaccine ‘Dengvaxia’ to show up.

Over the past few weeks, the anti-dengue vaccine ‘Dengvaxia’ has been the headlines of several local news outlets and countless social media pages after the French drug manufacturer “Sanofi” revealed its negative effects to those who did not have a prior dengue infection.

The vaccine has been administered to about 733, 000 public school students, wherein an estimated 10 percent of the total numbers never suffered from dengue virus.

Recently, Dr. Anthony Leachon, a health advocate and the former president of Philippine College of Physicians Foundation said that the parents of the Dengvaxia recipients should go to the office of Volunteer’s Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

Leachon said that the vaccine recipients should report the matter to receive immediate help from VACC for complaints or charges against the people who are liable for the possible negative effects of the dengue drug.

The health advocate was also disappointed on the government’s alleged downplay on purchasing the vaccine and on implementing the vaccination program.

The worst scenario could happen when Dengvaxia recipients who did not have prior infection got a severe dengue three to five years after the vaccination.
