Pinay Athlete Hidilyn Diaz Bags Silver, Bronze Medals In 2017 World Championships

The Filipina athlete Hidilyn Diaz recently won the silver and bronze medals at the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships.

The 26-year-old Pinay Oympic Games silver medalist shows the great ability of the Filipino people again after winning medals from the world weightlifting championship, which was topped by Sopita Tanasan of Thailand.

Hsu-Shu Ching of Chinese-Taipei, the reigning Olympic champion did not finish the competition after completing second in the snatch.

Diaz ranked second in the clean and jerk after raising the 113 kg weight on her second attempt, which was opposing Kristina Shermetova of Turkmenistan on her third attempt.

Hidilyn came third overall in the weight class with 199kg and Shermetova was placed second with 204kg. While Tanasan bagged all three gold medals in the weight class snatch – 96kg, clean and jerk – 114kg with a total of 210kg.

Diaz cost a missed first attempt at 83kg and another botched attempt at 90kg in the snatch, which ended up with 86 kg on her second attempt. She landed at the sixth place with her snatch lift.

The Pinay weightlifter had to sidestep on her first and second attempt (110 and 113 kg respectively) to heave up the barbell. She also moved down from 58kg down to 53 kg.

The world championships awards have three sets of medals including snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift.
