Coup Recruitment Rumor Against Duterte Admin  Called By As Delfin Lorenzana Fake News

The coup recruitment rumor against the administration of President Duterte has been called by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana as fake news.

Previously, there are several social media websites posting about a politician who was recruiting members of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 2006 for a coup against the Duterte administration.

The posts in the social media about the coup recruitment expose was citing the social media user “Syet Da Pwet” as their primary source.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said that they have not yet received any reports regarding the coup recruitment issue. He also called the rumors as fake news, because it only appeared in the social media with no legitimate basis.

“Kung mayroon talaga, mararamdaman talaga ng Defense or Armed Forces. Talagang may magre-report sa amin eh. We have not received any such report. Lumalabas lang sa mga social media… ah, ang tingin ko diyan fake news yan eh,” said by Lorenzana quoted by Philstar.

The issue also prompted Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to ask the Defense officials about the allegations after his involvement in mutinies against the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Gen. Eduardo Año, the chief of staff of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) collaborates with Lorenzana’s statement saying that AFP has not monitored any recruitment activity. He also said that the organization hasn’t detected any demoralization or dissatisfaction.

AFP spokesperson BGen. Restituto Padilla Jr. said that the military will not hesitate to do corresponding actions against any forces trying to destroy the country’s security.
