113-Year-Old Yisrael Kristal, The World’s Oldest Man Passed Away

The Israeli Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal who was dubbed as the oldest man in the world has already passed away at the age of 113.

On Friday (August 11, 2017), the 113-year-old Yisrael Kristal died a month before his 114th birthday. Kristal was dubbed as the world’s oldest man, which was certified by the Guinness World Records in March 2016.

Kristal is an observant Jew and his family could not be reached on Friday evening when died because of the Jewish Sabbath. The Israeli has two children, 9 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren, according to a news site “Ynet”.

He also explained that he had no secret for having a long life. “I don’t know the secret for long life. I believe that everything is determined from above and we shall never know the reasons why,” said by Kristal.

The world’s oldest man was born on September 15, 1903, in Zarnow, which is now called as Poland. He was born three months before the successful powered airplane flight of the Wright brothers.

Last year, Shula Koperstochm the world’s oldest man’s daughter said that his father has celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in September after a century long because he was unable to celebrate it in 1916 when his mother died and his father was a soldier during World War I.

Bar Mitzvah was celebrated when a boy marked at 13 years of age, while Bat Mitzvah was celebrated by girls on the 12th or 13th birthday. It is celebrated to mark their transition into a person who’s responsible enough for his/her actions.

The Israel man has moved to Lodz after World War 1 and worked in the family confectionary factory. Eventually, Kristal finally married and had two children, but his life was disrupted during World War II when he was sent to the infamous Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau..

The 113-year-old man together with around 1.1 million people have perished in the camp from 1940 up to 1945 before it was liberated by Soviet forces.

The two children and the wife of Kristal have already passed away after the war. The latter moved to Israel and opened a sweet shop to continue his life.
