On Saturday (July 29, 2017), Senator Manny Pacquiao arrived at Camp Ranao in Marawi City around 9 am to visit the government troops and give some inspirational message to them. The lawmaker and his staff received a security briefing from the officials of the military.

The senator was also boosting the morale of the military to pursue its offensive actions against the Maute Terror Group after the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stated that the fighting in the city was confined to two and a half villages.

The boxing champion was also set to give assistance to the military who were based in the battle zone. Around 114 soldiers, 471 militants, and 45 civilians have already died in the extended gun battle in the beleaguered city.

Last May 23, 2017, the Marawi City has been attacked by the Maute Terror Group and fought back the government forces who raided the hideout of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon. The sporadic firefight between the two groups has displaced about 400, 000 residents of the city.

President Duterte has also declared martial throughout the entire region of Mindanao to handle the situation and prevent the terrorists from escaping.

Recently the Congress has granted the request of Mr. Duterte to extend the martial law in Mindanao until the end of 2017.

  1. Kind of reminds me of Chuck Norris’ similar visit to US forces stationed in Iraq_but with a huge difference.
The AFP are fighting terrorists in Marawi.
The US forces are the bona fide terrorists in Iraq, who invaded and destroyed that sovereign state based on a fabricated WMD report.
