US State Official Thomas Shannon Jr Describe Philippines-US Ties Almost A Family Relationship

Thomas Shannon Jr., an official of the US Department of State described the ties between Philippines and US are almost a family relationship.

During the commemoration of the 119th anniversary of Philippine Independence at the Philippine embassy in Washington, Shannon said that both United States and the Philippines are facing similar problems and challenges such as fighting poverty, corruption, illegal drugs, terrorism, and illiteracy.

Shannon, the undersecretary of state for political affairs also said that their partnership could help both countries to resolve those problems. He also said that the United States is proud to stand by the Philippines as partner and family.

Family Relationship

“We are proud to stand by the Philippines as teammates, partners, and family,” said by Shannon.

The US official explained that the Philippines and America have common values, democracy, rule of law, economic openness, and sovereignty. He also said that the two countries were united to build a better Asia-Pacific region and a better world.

“As we have been for over a half century, the US and Filipino peoples are united in our commitment to building a safe, secure and prosperous Asia-Pacific region and a wider world,” said by Shannon quoted by Philstar.

Family Relationship

The Philippines and United States continues to stand together whether in good or challenging ties, according to Minister Patrick Chuasoto, chargé d’affaires of the Philippine embassy in Washington.

Chuasoto also said that the United States has been a reliable ally of our country. He also said that the Philippines is also the oldest ally of the United States is Asia and the ties between these two countries become stronger throughout the decades.

He also emphasized the bright development prospects of the country that are anchored on the inclusive policy agenda of Duterte administration. He also underlined the independent foreign policy was considering the territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and promoting the welfare of the Filipinos.
