“Franchise renewal of its television and radio operations they filed in the 16th congress but withdrew it. Now they have to file it again in the coming 17th congress under the administration of Duterte as their franchise expires in 2020, and because ABS-CBN was biased against Duterte during the campaign period, they’re now thinking that their application for a franchise renewal might not be approved by the 17th congress because majority of the congressmen and senators now sides with the Duterte administration. Hope this answers your query @maria29888,” netizen @thisisciongsantos commented.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said that he might block the franchise renewal of the country’s largest network.

In an interview with the reporters on Thursday, April 27, 2017, Duterte lashed out against Kapamilya network and also broadsheet, Philippine Daily Inquirer for “unfair coverage” dating back to the campaign period.

According to him, the television network (ABS-CBN) was supposed to air a political advertisement which was paid for by his campaign.

When asked if he has plans to block the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN, he said, “Yes.”

“If ganoon ka kaano, you’re engaged in swindling for all we know ilang kompanya dito na hindi n’yo pinalabas. If you operate, ABS-CBN, tapos manloloko lang kayo ng tao, mag-swindling kayo, I have to stop you, ‘di ba?” Duterte noted.

ABS-CBN which stands for Alto Broadcasting System – Chronicle Broadcasting Network has been operating for 63 years already.
