Palawan Disaster Risk Reduction Chief Gilbert Baaco Shot Dead on Good Firday

Gilbert Baaco, chief of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Rescue 165 in Palawan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Good Friday, April 14, 2017.

According to a report of ABC-CBNNews, the 44-year-old government employee was killed inside his home in Barangay Barong-Barong, Brooke’s Point.

The initial findings of Brookes Point PNP revealed that the killing happened around 8pm.

The victim just finished his dinner along with his wife and 5-year-old son when 5 unidentified suspects (2 females nad 3 males) wearing camouflage equipped with long firearms entered their compound using an improvised ladder.

Maria Victoria Baaco, wife of the victim saw the gunmen. She managed to call the attention of her husband although 2 of the suspects pointed a gun at her.

Before he was shot dead, the program manager who has been serving the Provincial government for more than a decade was able to run to the living room.

The wife of late Baaco said in an interview that she saw two of the suspects bringing two firearms that belonged to Gilbert after the killing. The gunmen then left the Baaco residence through the back gate.

Gilbert Baaco was rushed to Leoncio General Hospital but due to multiple gunshot wounds, he was not able to survive and was declared dead on arrival.

The police were able to retrieve 1pc slug of M16 rifle, four long magazines of m16 rifle which contains 111 pieces of live ammunition and empty shell of 9mm hand gun from the crime scene.
