Homeless Girl In Quiapo, Manila Graduated From College

A homeless girl since birth, who grows up as a beggar in Paterno Street in Quiapo Manila graduates from college, but how did she finish her studies, anyway?

Most unfortunate people were not able to finish their studies because of financial problems and poverty. But there are some people who prove that poverty and finances will not hinder to reach their goals and ambitions and life.

Rodallie S. Mosende is one of the homeless people who was able to finish her studies through hard work and also with the help of an anonymous benefactor who sends her to school. Poverty and their difficulties in life did not stop her to finish her studies.

Mosende grows up as a beggar in the street asking for food from vendors when her mom got sick. She was also promising the vendor to pay them when she gets a job, which pushes her to finish her studies.

In 2011, photographer Rick Rocamora found Mosende while documenting the homeless people in Quiapo. Rocamora was amazed by her determination and perseverance to graduate from high school during that time.

Rocamora shared Mosende’s story through the photographs, which inspired an anonymous benefactor to send her to college by providing a monthly allowance. While studying in college, Mosende was working as a street sweeper for her food and transportation.

She was also finishing her school works in the school library, so she could tutor kids in Paterno.

The job in the cruise industry offers a big salary, which will make her dream come true of having a home for her family.

Mosende’s story is truly inspiring and must serve as an inspiration to all college students that finances and poverty are not a hindrance in reaching their dreams.
