Will ‘Big One’ Earthquake Could Strike Again The Place Affected By Recent Quakes

Several regions in the Philippines was recently hit by earthquakes, is there a possibility that ‘big one’ earthquake could strike them again?

Davao City was struck by a magnitude 4.6 earthquake on Thursday (February 24, 2017). The quake toppled a concrete waiting shed in front of an elementary school, which injured at least 2 people including a woman.

Zamboanga Del Norte was also hit by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake on Thursday, which raises the concern of the residents in the province.

‘Big One’

Montevista, Compostella was also struck by a magnitude 4.2 earthquake frightened the residents of possible aftershocks.

Sultan Kudarat was struck by a magnitude 4.9 earthquake last Sunday night (February 19, 2017).

Surigao Del Norte was devastated by a magnitude 6.7 earthquake last (February 10, 2017), which hurts 100 people and kill at least 8 people.

‘Big One’

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs)announced earlier that a ‘Big One’ earthquake might strike Metro Manila and nearby provinces anytime. The ‘big one’ quake has an expected of 7.2 magnitudes, which could injure about 100, 000 people and could kill up to 34, 000 people.

The areas located under the West Valley Fault will be the only places affected by the disastrous earthquake. However, nearby places of the fault could be also slightly affected by the quake, due to its strong intensity.

Here are some areas under the West Valley Fault:

  • Quezon City
  • Marikina
  • Makati
  • Pasig
  • Taguig
  • Muntinlupa
  • Bulacan (Doña Remedios Trinidad, Norzgaray, San Jose Del Monte City)
  • Rizal (Rodriguez)
  • Laguna (San Pedro City, Biñan, Sta Rosa, Cabuyao, Calamba)
  • Cavite (Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez, Silang)

The authorities advised the public to be well-prepared for the upcoming disastrous earthquake, especially those areas located under the fault. The quake could strike anytime so people must immediately prepare to avoid casualties and injuries.
