After being victorious in the presidential race against four other strong candidates for the presidency, Pres. Duterte started his war on drugs campaign. News reports about discovered illegal drug laboratories then started to circulate.

Undeniably, many were shocked with the reality of the extent of illegal drugs in the country. There were even government officials who were linked as the alleged protectors of illegal drugs.

One of them is Sen. Leila De Lima, one of the staunch critic of Pres. Duterte on his war on drugs campaign.

In a previous news report, it is stated that the President expressed that there is no stepping back in the war against illegal drugs. However, there were certain police operations recently that has sparked lots of questions on the minds of the people.

Recently, a news report in GMA News Online stated that during the Senate hearing on the alleged kidnapping and killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo, Sen. Lacson showed a controversial CCTV footage which he got from an unnamed person.

Based on the news report, Sen. Lacson said that there is nothing worst than what happened to the Korean businessman. He stressed that it is not ‘isolated’.

The Senator showed a CCTV footage that took place in an office where policemen came and gathered the employees in one area based on the report. What happened next is that one cop who is in civilian went inside an office and allegedly put something based on the report.

“May mauuna rito, magpa-plant ng shabu and then papasok yung riding party. These are police officers. Ninakawan pa ng equivalent to P7 million [There are those who will come first and plant the drugs and then the riding party will come in. They are police officers. An equivalent of P7 million has been stolen],” the Senator said.

In a news report in Inquirer, it is stated that the Senator said that the source of the controversial video fears for his life so he chooses not to file a complaint regarding the incident.

According to the report, Sen. Lacson advised Philippine National Police Chief Director Gen. Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa to make an effort to restore the trust of the populace and to improve their efforts on checking their members.
