Leila Warns Duterte: Suspending Writ Of Habeas Corpus Leads To Innocent Deaths

Senator Leila de Lima is once again banging President Duterte who earlier threatened to suspend the writ of habeas corpus shall drugs and rebellion continue.

Senator Leila de Lima told President Rodrigo Duterte not to resort to the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus only to “legitimize” the flawed war of his administration against prohibited drugs.

Senator Leila also advised the President to “stop toying” with the idea of the writ suspension because it would result in more innocent deaths, human rights violations and human dignity desecration.

Duterte earlier warned that he would suspend the issuance of the writ of habeas corpus shall the drug menace and the rebellion in Mindanao continue.

The lady senator urged the chief executive to instead review what his four-month-and-a-half old administration has achieved so far since placing the Philippines under the state of lawless violence against illegal drugs and terrorism a couple of months after the bloody attack at the Davao City Night Market which claimed 15 lives and left dozens others wounded.

Leila said doing so could address the defects of the war against drugs of the current administration and “curb its abuses to prevent more extrajudicial killings and summarry executions”.
