At the said event, Marcos Jr.likened himself to the Pinoy ring icon, Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, and borrowed the battlecry of the basketball team Ginebra.

Marcos wasquoted saying: “Kumbaga sa Ginebra, ‘never say die’ dapat! ’Ika nga po ng tema ng laban ni Senator Manny Pacquiao: resurgence. Babalik po tayo. Babangon at babawing muli tayo. Marami pa tayong ibubuga. Pansamantala lamang po ito. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata!”

(Just like what Ginebra says, ‘never say die’! If we may borrow the theme of Senator Manny Pacquiao’s recent fight: resurgence. I’ll be back. I’ll rise again and I’ll recover. There still a lot I can do. This [hiatus] is but temporary. Watch out for the next chapter!)
