Philippine bet failed to enter Top 16 of Miss Earth 2016.
Ecuador bet Katherine Espin was declared Miss Earth 2016 during the coronation night held at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
Espin succeeded Miss Earth 2015 Filipina beauty queen Angelia Ong.
Philippine candidate Imelda Schweighart failed to make it at the Top 16. Bets of Colombia, South Korea, Northern Ireland, Italy, Venezuela, England, Brazil, Vietnam, Macau, Russia, Mexico, South Africa, Ecuador, Australia, Sweden, USA were included.
Sweden’s Cloie Syquia Skarne is the half-sister of actress and television host KC Concepcion, and she finished in the Top 8, together with Vietnam, Venezuela, Russia, USA, Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Top 4 were chosen and these include Ecuador, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia
Aside from Espin, the other winners are:
Miss Earth Air: Michelle Gomez of Colombia
Miss Earth Water: Stephanie De Zorzi of Venezuela
Miss Earth Fire: Bruna Zanardo of Brazil
The 23-year-old Espin is a model and cosmetologist in Ecuador. She said she joined the beauty contest to forward her advocacy of instilling in young students the importance of taking care of the environment.
“I chose this because I believe that the best age to teach a person to have environmental conscience is at an early age because on their growing years they will learn to have respect towards the environment which will help to the future generations,” she explained.
“I truly believe that there should exist on every academic pensum an environmental class and I will work hard on it to make it possible.”
If Schweighart bested all the candidates, this will be the third straight Miss Earth crown for the Philippines after Ong in 2015 and 2014 titleholder Jamie Herrell.
Somehow, it was a pressure for Schweighart because earlier this week, the Philippines’ bet, Kylie Verzosa, won the country’s sixth Miss International crown while Nicole Cordoves placed first runner-up in the Miss Grand International pageant.
