Lesser Filipino Families Say They Are Poor – SWS Survey

There are lesser number of Filipino families who consider themselves poor and this is the record-low self-rated poverty rating.

The number of Filipino families who considered themselves poor and “food-poor” hit a new record low with 45 percent lesser compared to last year.

This is according to the latest survey of the Social Weather Station (SWS) conducted last September 24 to 27, 2016 among 1,200 respondents across the country.

According to the survey result, 42 percent of Filipino families, or equivalent to 9.4 million families, rated themselves poor in the past three months.

This is lesser by 45 percent or about 10.5 million households in the June 2016 survey and the lowest self-rated poverty rate since the survey commenced in April 1983.

The previous record-low was recorded in March 1987 and March 2010 with 43 percent of Filipinos rating themselves as poor and food-poor.
