“Berdugo” Would End A P20 Million Per Day Loss In PCSO

A former military serviceman, who is considered as a Berdugo, was appointed to supervise one of the alleged most corrupt agencies in the country.

Berdugo was the word chosen by President Rodrigo Duterte to describe Marines Major General Alexander Balutan, the new general manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

Duterte said that rather than in the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP), Balutan is more needed in the PCSO as he is a “berdugo” or a headsman.

According to the president, he is confident that under the watch of Balutan, the series of robbery in billions of income of the PCSO will be deterred, unlike what happened in the previous administration.

He further said the syndicates inside the PCSO “molested” the funds of the amusement agency where about P20 million of supposed income is lost or stolen. He said that the gimmick in the past in order to make money is to operate jueteng under the robe of lotto who are being operated by the syndicates.

To be with the berdugo to sweep away the dirt of corruption from the sweepstakes agency is Retired PNP Gen. George Corpus who now chairs PCSO.
