On August 25, a new map of Louisiana Flood of 2016 was released. Based on satellite imagery and geographic data, it was revealed that tens of thousands of acres were under water across a 200-mile swatch from Lake Charles to Franklinton.

The flooding, however, is isolated in some spots.

The flood was brought by phenomenal rain gauging two feet in three days in some areas. Rivers overflowed their banks with some stream depth staying above flood stage as long as ten days.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards called the disaster a historic and unprecedented flooding event which pushed the local government to declare a state of emergency.

It was found out that a large number of affected homeowners do not have flood insurance which prompted the federal government to provide disaster aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
