Online Violence Against Women sought to be supported by Nancy Binay.

Online Violence Against Women was sought  by Nancy Binay to be the president’s administration’s priority measures to protect women against electronic or online violence.

Online Violence Against Women is the bill  that seeks to amend Republic Act No. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, also known as the VAWC law.

Senator Maria Lourdes Nancy S. Binay is referring to the Electronic Violence Against Women (E-VAW) Act of 2016 under Senate Bill No. 180 which seeks to protect women and children by including violence committed using the Internet and communications technology (ICT) under the scope of the EVAW.

Nancy was hoping that the President will support and consider this bill as one of the administration’s priority measures.

Binay also said according to an interview that this measure will empower women and their children by providing them with the necessary protection against online bullying, cyber-stalking, and other forms of harassment committed using the internet, social media or any other forms of electronic media.

She also said that “the law fails to address the form of violence brought on victims of such scandals, by reason of their special relationships with their assailants,” in which she pointed out to end such form of harassment against women and their children in the social media.

She said that media beceme the instrument for the people to disseminate some unreliable information that could affect and destroy both known personalities the private citizen of the country.
