Duterte Government Urges by Parañaque to Pursue $13-B International Airport

Incoming President of the Republic of the Philippines will be very busy in the next few months as major infrastructure projects will be made accessible to the Filipino people. One of the highly anticipated project is the construction of a new international airport. The local government of Parañaque urges the Duterte government to push through with the proposed $13 billion international airport in Central Manila Bay.

New Airports

The possible international airport construction venue located in Central Manila Bay, is one of the potential sites recommended by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as revealed by the local government of Parañaque.

According to reelected Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez stated that the new airport which will be located in his city would replace the congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The major infrastructure project would also attrac local and foreign investors. The site of the proposed international airport, is the sprawling 100-hectar Pagcor Entertainment City.

The Mayor of Parañaque also stated that the proposed airport which is located just 25 to 30 minutes away from NAIA is within Parañaque’s territorial jurisdiction and located right at the disputed waterfront reclamation project in Manila Bay.

The Philippine national government wants to have the new gateway located just minutes away from NAIA, which is expected to reach its full capacity soon. NAIA is expected to hit overcapacity this year with 37.78 million passengers. By 2040, passenger traffic is expected to hit 101.49 million.

During the past few weeks, diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp., proposed to build a new international airport at the reclaimed area along the Manila-Cavite Coastal Road for $10 billion but this did not happen.
